Transponder Key Programming in Dallas–Fort Worth
If your car key has a chip in the head and you turn it to start, that’s a transponder key. A copy won’t start the engine until the chip is programmed to your car — and that’s exactly what we do, on site.

Most cars built in the last couple of decades use a transponder key — a traditional key with a small chip embedded in the plastic head. When you turn the key, the car checks that chip against its immobilizer before it lets the engine start. It’s a great anti-theft feature, and it’s also why a plain hardware-store copy cranks but won’t start.
We cut the key and program the transponder chip to your car’s immobilizer on site, so your copy or replacement actually starts the engine — not just turns in the lock.
Why a transponder key needs programming
A transponder key has to satisfy two separate checks in your car:
- The mechanical cut — the blade has to match your lock to turn.
- The chip code — the transponder has to be programmed to your immobilizer or the engine won’t start.
- Both are required — a key that’s only cut will turn but not start, which is the classic ‘my copy won’t work’ problem.
- Done at your car — the programming has to communicate with your vehicle.

Common questions
Why won’t my copied key start the car?
Because only the physical cut was copied, not the chip. Transponder keys have a chip that must be programmed to your car’s immobilizer. Without that step the key will turn in the ignition but the engine won’t start — we do the programming that fixes it.
How do I know if I have a transponder key?
If your key has a thick plastic head (often with no buttons, or with a separate fob) and the car built in roughly the last 20 years, it almost certainly has a transponder chip. Send us your year, make, and model and we’ll confirm.
How much does transponder key programming cost?
It starts at $350 and depends on your vehicle and key type. We confirm the price when you book.
