SRS airbag control module reset

Your SRS (supplemental restraint system) airbag control module is the small computer that fires your airbags and seat-belt pretensioners in a crash. The instant it deploys them, it writes a permanent ‘crash’ record to its own memory and locks — that’s what keeps the airbag light glowing on your dash afterward.

Here’s the part most people aren’t told: in the vast majority of cases you do not need a brand-new module. We reset yours back to the exact factory condition it left the plant in — crash data and hard codes cleared — for a fraction of what a dealer charges to replace it. We do it right at your vehicle, anywhere in Dallas–Fort Worth.

Reset vs. replace — what your module actually needs

A dealer will often quote you a new module. Usually that’s not necessary. Once the physical airbags and pretensioners are replaced, the control module itself is almost always fine — it’s just holding the crash lock. Clearing that is a reset, not a replacement.

When we reset your module we:

  • Clear the stored crash data — the permanent record written at deployment.
  • Clear the hard fault codes a scan tool can’t erase.
  • Return it to factory condition so it reads as a healthy, ready module.
  • Confirm the airbag light is off and the system is armed before we leave.

Common questions

Do I need a new airbag module or can mine be reset?

In most cases it can be reset. After the airbags and pretensioners are replaced, the control module itself is usually fine — it’s just holding the crash lock. We reset it to factory condition and clear the codes, which is far cheaper than a new module. If a module is physically damaged, we’ll tell you and program a replacement instead.

Will a regular scan tool turn off my airbag light?

No. After a deployment the module stores hard crash codes that a standard scanner can’t erase. It takes a proper reset to clear the crash data and return the module to factory condition.

How much does an on-site airbag module reset cost?

On-site reset starts at $250 across DFW. If you’d rather ship the module to us, our nationwide mail-in reset is $49.99 with free 2-way shipping.

Is a reset module safe?

Yes. A reset returns the module to the same factory condition it had when the car was new — provided the deployed airbags and pretensioners have been properly replaced, which we can also handle.

What vehicles do you work on?

American and Asian makes and models. Send us your year, make, and model if you’re unsure and we’ll confirm.

The website was easy to navigate and I found the service I needed and was able to book the perfect time between work. The technician messaged me a day early letting me know that he would be in the area and gave me the option to get it taken care of early but unfortunately I was working. If I hadn't been that would have been amazing to get it done ahead of time. He was on time and very pleasant. Worked quickly and got my problem taken care of. It was such a better experience than sitting in a waiting room with strangers or having to take an Uber back and forth to avoid such situation. I'm already recommending them to my friends because of how easy it was. Why go to a shop to get your car fixed at the shop can just come to you?

This is my first mobile mechanic experience and I have to say Jose made it the best. He was early on the appointment he was very professional very knowledgeable and polite. If you need a mobile mechanic call lockncal and try to get Jose out he'll fix you right up. I have to admit that I was a little skeptical about paying up front because I've never used this type of service before but the end result I am very pleased and will use this service again thank you Jose again if I need anything else I'll get you out to fix it.

Jose contacted me swiftly after I filled out the form on the website and discussed the part needed (clock spring) and the appointment time. I was able to get in within 2 days. He arrived early and got right to work and was done rather quickly. He communicated well the whole time. I’m very glad to be back on the road and know my airbag light is off and all my steering wheel buttons work again!

On time, reliable and incredible service. Very honest about our repair and showed us the code log. Highly recommend. Already shared his information with a family member who didn’t even know this kind of service exists. Now I can feel confident that our family’s vehicle is safe to drive again.

This is a great company to deal with ,my cruise control stopped working & they came out & gave a free diagnosis which gave a clear picture of what was exactly wrong ,highly recommended ,very professional & honest, thank you again !!!

I initially went to the dealership when the airbag light in my Nissan Rogue had come on. Upon diagnostic review, the dealership advised that it would cost around $4500 to correct the issues that they were seeing with the system. I decided to get a 2nd opinion and I called DFW Safety Restore. Jose was able to work me in next day. He was prompt and right on time for my appointment in coming out to my house to run a diagnostic on my car. The first scan showed a host of issues, the same issues the dealership reported and more. So many, that Jose suggested resetting the codes and rerunning the diagnostic to get a true picture of what was going on. He said if there are true issues with the system the diagnostic codes would reappear. The reset worked and the system went back to normal. I am so thankful for Jose, and DFW Safety Restore for saving me from unnecessary and very expensive work on my car. If you have airbag system issues with your vehicle, I highly, HIGHLY, recommend you give DFW Safety Restore a call first.
